Two of the best Nepalese restaurants in the country are right here in Merseyside.

Last night, Monday, February 12, the Nation's Curry Award celebrated the talents of businesses in the UK’s curry industry. The awards recognised excellence in a range of categories, including Best Chef of the Year, Vegetarian Restaurant of the Year, and Best Customer Service.

Waterloo's own Da Mount Gurkha, on Crosby Road North, won Nepalese Restaurant of the year, with Southport's Great Himalayas Nepalese Restaurant & Bar coming in highly-commended. Last year, Da Mount Gurkha's chef Geeta Bhandari was recognised for her work at the restaurant when she was given the Special Recognition award at the 2023 awards.

This year, her husband Laxman Bhandari, who is also the owner and a chef was a finalist in the Chef of the Year category. He missed out narrowly but was highly commended behind Arun Kumar (chef at The Original Third Eye restaurant in Manchester).
