SSE Airtricity Division One
Cobh Ramblers 1 (Bosnnjak 69')
Longford Town 1 (O'Brien 40' (OG))
Longford Town turned up to St Colman’s Park on Monday afternoon to spoil the Cobh Ramblers homecoming party, as Stephen Henderson’s side came away with a 1-1 draw in the First Division.
Gary Hunt’s men were better for large portions of the game, but lacked any sort of conviction in front of goal.
The visitors defended superbly, and made some incredible blocks, but Cobh will be kicking themselves for not having found a winner.
Longford took the lead on the eve of the half as Charlie O’Brien headed the ball into his own net, but Ramblers’ super-sub David Bosnjak bagged another goal from the bench this season to rescue a point on the hour mark.
One of the hosts best chances of the game arrived inside four minutes, as James O’Leary surged forward on the counter, before playing an inch-perfect ball across to Beineón O’Brien-Whitmarsh.
The striker’s excellent first touch set up his shot on the edge of the box, but he dragged his effort wide of the posts.
Ramblers continued to search for the breakthrough, and forced Longford into making countless goal line clearances in a dramatic scramble. Both Jason Abbott and McKevitt tried to find the net, but every attempt was met by the foot or torso of a Longford defender.
Longford did get ahead as a corner came dangerously close to the Ramblers goal line, and O’Brien could do little to prevent an own goal.
Trailing at the break, Cobh raised the tempo again in the second period, and an over the top ball from Abbott found McKevitt, but Jack Brady made a superb stop to protect Longford’s lead until Bosnjak’s equaliser.
