Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola refuted suggestions that his side got lucky after Everton were not awarded a penalty when Dominic Calvert-Lewin went down in the area under a challenge from Tyler Adams.
The incident happened when the score was still 0-0 and left Blues boss Sean Dyche bemused as to why his side were not awarded a spot-kick, describing it as “a proper kick on the shin.” However, his Cherries counterpart disagreed and compared it to a first half incident when Adams was again involved in Everton’s box when tangling with Jarrad Branthwaite.
The Spaniard said: “I haven’t seen the replays but I think it is the kind of penalty like in life I have to look at the same one we asked in the first half for Tyler Adams. There is contact, yes, but to call a penalty? No.”

Iraola – whose side were beaten 3-0 by Everton in the opposite fixture at Goodison Park back in October – was satisfied with how Bournemouth dealt with the visitors’ threat. He said: “It was a very important win for us. It puts us on 38 points which is a very good mark and we still have nine more chances to continue getting points.
“We had to play this kind of game against Everton because they are very consistent in how they play. They put you under pressure with long balls from (Jordan) Pickford, set-pieces and they are really physical but I think we dealt quite well with the game.
“We had our chances and it’s not easy to score against them. We conceded very few chances and I think we played the game we had to play.”
