It felt big. It was the first time, that was audibly clear, that Chelsea supporters had chanted directly about Mauricio Pochettino.
In an x-rated chant, the travelling supporters, who made the short trip to the G-Tech Community Stadium on Saturday afternoon, were calling for Pochettino to leave the club. It had been bubbling up for a while.
If you have scoured through social media since the turn of the year, really, then it will not come as much of a surprise that Chelsea fans aired their anger and frustration with the Argentine. But while the Roman Abramovich and Jose Mourinho chants are nothing new, the loud calls for Pochettino to go were definitely new.
And it continued after the game. On a train back to London Waterloo from Kew Bridge, the train station located around the corner from Brentford’s stadium, a carriage full of Chelsea supporters were in unison singing, ‘F*** off Mauricio’.
“I’ve been told but I did not hear, to be honest,” Pochettino replied when asked about what he thought of the chants directed at him. “That is why it is difficult for me to understand.
“I don’t know. I need to believe what you are telling me but it is normal. We were losing the game 2-1 and it’s about to express their frustration and we are responsible. I am responsible. I am the head coach.”

It did feel big. The atmosphere in the away end, while fairly loud throughout the 90 minutes, had turned really toxic.
It isn’t the first time, as I say, that Chelsea fans have voiced their anger this season. But they had, up until Saturday, managed to restrain themselves
