Carabao Cup semi-final and final dates explained as Chelsea one step closer to Wembley

Chelsea booked their place in the Carabao Cup semi-final on Tuesday evening with a penalty shoot-out win over Newcastle United after a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge.

Mykhailo Mudryk's late leveller rescued the Blues' Wembley dream after Callum Wilson had put Newcastle ahead.Kieran Trippier missed the target from the spot before Djordje Petrovic saved Matt Ritchie's decisive penalty to send Stamford Bridge into raptures.

Results elsewhere in the competition meant Middlesbrough and Fulham joined Chelsea in Wednesday's draw. The winner of Liverpool and West Ham will join them.

When is the Carabao Cup semi-final?

The next stage of the Carabao Cup is played over two legs. The first fixture will take place in the week commencing January 8 meaning it'll either be penned in for Tuesday January 9 or Wednesday January 10.

The return leg takes place two weeks later, the week commencing January 21. It will be scheduled for either Tuesday January 22 or Wednesday January 23.

When is the Carabao Cup final?

Should Chelsea come out on top over two legs, they will be greeted with a date at Wembley. The final will take place on Sunday February 25.
