Chelsea boss Emma Hayes believes England could soon possess 'best in the world' in her position

Chelsea manager Emma Hayes believes Lioness goalkeeper Hannah Hampton has what it takes to be 'the best in the world'. The goalkeeper has been in sensational form for Hayes' quadruple-chasing side since the Blues boss placed faith in the 23-year-old who made her club debut in November.

Hampton has kept eight clean sheets in 10 matches so far this season and helped keep the reigning league champions at the forefront of the title race. But after Chelsea's recent 3-1 win over Arsenal, Hayes made certain to single out her goalkeeper for praise after another impressive display.

She said: «I say this as the future USA coach: England are so lucky. She could have had the pick of many clubs but she trusted me in the vision I had for her.

»I remember watching her play maybe four years ago when she was at Birmingham and I said 'she is going to be a top, top goalkeeper' and I genuinely believe Hannah has all the ability to become the best in the world."

If not for an unfortunate late deflection off USWNT forward Catarina Macario, Hampton would have likely earned her fifth WSL clean sheet of the season out of seven league matches in the Arsenal win.

Hayes is set to take over the four-time world champion USWNT at the end of the club season. She added that she wishes she could spend 'more time' with the young keeper as she continues on her remarkable trajectory.
