Chelsea fans turn on Raheem Sterling and Mauricio Pochettino during Leicester City FA Cup clash
The Chelsea supporters voiced their anger at Raheem Sterling and Mauricio Pochettino during the FA Cup quarter-final clash with Leicester City on Sunday afternoon.
Chelsea led 2-0 at half-time thanks to goals from Marc Cucurella and Cole Palmer, but were reeled back in by Leicester City soon after the break. A disastrous Axel Disasi own goal pulled it back to 2-1, before former Arsenal man Stephy Mavididi made it 2-2 with a sensational strike. But there was anger towards both Sterling and Pochettino.
Sterling had missed a penalty in the first half, having taken the ball off regular taker Cole Palmer. His spot-kick was poor, with Poliosh keeper Jakub Stolarczyk saving with ease. He also missed a one-on-one when played clean through by Nicolas Jackson.
Sterling needed an arm around the shoulder from assistant head coach Jesus Perez at half-time, but worse was to come. Chelsea were initially awarded another penalty in the second half when Callum Doyle felled Jackson as he went through on goal.
VAR intervened, however, saying the incident happened outside the box. Doyle's initial yellow card was alos upgraded to a red. Right on the edge of the box, Sterling took charge of the free-kick, instead of Palmer, who was also over the ball, and ballooned his effort high and wide.
The supporters inside Stamfrd Bridge showed their anger, with a loud chorus of boos. Then moments later, Pochettino opted to bring Carney Chukwuemeka on off the subsitutes' bench. But not for Sterling, for Mykhailo Mudryk. Another chorus of boos followed for the Blues head coach.
Sterling did eventually get taken off five minutes before the end, with more boos coming his way, although there was plenty of applause for the former England man too, which is credit
