Chelsea are set to be significantly strengthened in their bid to reach a fourth FA Cup final since 2020 as Mauricio Pochettino's squad gets a big boost. Although still dealing with a significant amount of long-term injuries, the return of some key personnel is on the cards.
The Blues named an inexperienced bench even for their standard against Everton on Monday with five of the nine substitutes having never played for the club before the start of the season. Young duo Tyrique George and Kiano Dyer earned their spots through performances in training and with the academy sides, but were not used.
A Cole Palmer-inspired team were still able to run out comfortable 6-0 winners at Stamford Bridge even so. But now the task is a lot bigger as Chelsea return to the scene of their biggest embarrassment this season.
They travel to Wembley to take on Manchester City in the FA Cup semi-final on Saturday and will catch their opponents at perhaps the best time,bruised by being dumped out of the Champions League at the hands of Real Madrid on Wednesday night after 120 minutes. Pochettino has less travel and a whole two days more to prepare his side for the game.
He will be able to welcome back Raheem Sterling to the squad too after illness kept him from featuring against Everton. Sterling hasn't started since being booed by his own fans in a 4-2 FA Cup win over Leicester City before the international break but could return to the starting XI here.
