Chelsea were offered the chance to sign Jadon Sancho from Manchester United this summer as part of discussions over Marc Cucurella, according to Fabrizio Romano.
It comes as the winger missed out on the squad to face Arsenal over the weekend, being singled out by his manager Erik ten Hag. The Dutch coach claimed that Sancho wasn't part of the team due to his training, bringing into question his form during the week leading up to the game.
He told the media after his side's 3-1 defeat to the Gunners on Sunday: «Jadon [Sancho] — Performance in training so we didn’t select him. You have to reach a level everyday at Manchester United and we can make choices in a fortnight and yeah, so for this game he wasn't selected.»
Sancho hit back on social media afterwards, escalating the situation even further with a lengthy statement on the situation involving himself and the manager. On Twitter, he said: «Please don't believe everything you read! I will not allow people saying things that is completely untrue, I have conducted myself in training very well this week.
»I believe there are other reasons for this matter that I won't go into, I've been a scapegoat for a long time which isn't fair! All I want to do is play football with a smile on my face and contribute to my team. I respect all decisions that are made by the coaching staff, I play with fantastic players and grateful to do so which I know every week is a challenge. I will continue to fight for this badge no matter what!"
