Chelsea player ratings as Cole Palmer and Noni Madueke show clinical edge, Thiago Silva solid

Chelsea will be relieved to depart Kenilworth Road with three points and their first away win in five attempts as they prevailed 3-2 against Luton Town. The west London side had been three goals to go the good but were tested in the dying moments of the game and beyond.

It had not been a dominant start for the Blues but they were finding space against their hosts. It was an error from Issa Kabore that handed Chelsea their best chance when the defender placed the ball directly to Cole Palmer, who finished well.

For large stretches of the opening half Chelsea had to soak up pressure and they provided a staunch defence, albeit with more set-pieces than you'd hope for. Crucially, they were able to take advantage when they found an opportunity of their own. Noni Madueke drove into the box before finding some room to lash in a shot that doubled Chelsea's lead.

While Luton kept coming as the game wore on, they were unable to find a shot on target despite their pressure. Then, in the 70th minute, Chelsea showed a clinical edge again as Nicolas Jackson released Palmer, who made no mistake in passing the goalkeeper a knocking the ball into the net.

Luton showed little quite as the game went on and saw a goal ruled out by VAR and hit the crossbar in the final 15 minutes. That persistence paid off as Ross Barkley head in from a corner to give the Hatters hope. They had just a little bit more when Elijah Adebayo bagged his side's second in the 87th minute.
