Chelsea suffer another blow as club issue new Carney Chukwuemeka injury update

Chelsea youngster Carney Chukwuemeka is set for a spell on the sidelines after he underwent knee surgery on Monday night.

The Blues confirmed the news today after the 19-year-old went off injured during their 3-1 defeat to West Ham on Sunday.

It was a mixed day for the youngster who scored his first goal for the Blues to level the score after 28 minutes.

But he was seen hobbling off the pitch as the first-half came to a close and was replaced for the start of the second period.

Chukwuemeka underwent surgery after suffering a knee injury and is set to be out of action for around six weeks.

It comes despite the midfielder stating on Instagram last night that he will be back  soon.

He wrote: 'God thank you for blessing me with my first goal for Chelsea. A moment I've prayed so hard for and dreamt of since I was a kid.

'I know your plans for me are greater than my own. Nobody can stop what you have already written for me this season.

'Minor setback but I will be back stronger than ever. Thank you Chelsea fans for your love and support. See you soon.'

He is the latest player to join the injury list this season, with new captain Reece James set to be out for a month after suffering a hamstring injury in training ahead of their clash with West Ham.

Their £52m summer signing Christopher Nkunku also suffered a knee injury after damaging his meniscus during pre-season and is unlikely to play before December.

Wesley Fofana had surgery over the summer after damaging his anterior cruciate ligament and is also set to be out of action for a lengthy period.
