Chelsea are waiting to find the extent of the injury suffered by midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka during his side's clash against West Ham on Sunday.
The youngster was one of the first signings of the new ownership regime last year, joining from Aston Villa in a deal worth roughly £20million. There weren't many opportunities available over the course of the previous campaign though, as the Blues stumbled to a 12th-placed finish.
With new head coach Mauricio Pochettino at the helm, there were hopes of better performances, results and guidance for the young stars to shine. Chukwuemeka has been amongst those given a chance so far, handed a starting role against Liverpool in the opening game.
The west London outfit managed a 1-1 draw, showing plenty of positives amongst the signs of a work in progress. The following clash was against West Ham, where the all-London affair got off to a quick start as a header from Nayef Aguerd put the hosts in front just a few minutes in.
Chelsea grew into the tie as Chukwuemeka shifted the ball from left to right in the box and worked the space to get a shot away. The strike curled its way into the back of the net as the celebrations started and the comeback seemed to be underway for Pochettino.

That was halted, though, as Chukwuemeka went to ground holding his knee and after a lengthy stoppage for medical attention, the midfielder was taken off. He struggled to get off the pitch and down the tunnel, with several members of staff moving to help him get to the dressing room.
The 19-year-old was later spotted after the game on crutches, sparking fear over the injury and how severe it could well be. football
