Mauricio Pochettino admits uncertainty over new Chelsea signing's debut amid work permit problem

Mauricio Pochettino is unsure whether new signing Djordje Petrovic will be in the Chelsea squad for their clash with AFC Wimbledon on Wednesday evening.

The Blues announced the signing of the Serbian goalkeeper last week for a deal believed to be worth around £14million from MLS side New England Revolution. Petrovic, who was very highly regarded out in the United States because of his performances for New England, is expected to come into the club and compete with fellow new signing Robert Sanchez for the No.1 spot at Stamford Bridge.

Both Edouard Mendy and Kepa Arrizabalaga have left Chelsea this summer, meaning Sanchez and Petrovic have now been brought in. Sanchez has started all three of the Blues' Premier League games so far this season and the Spaniard kept his first clean sheet for the club on Friday in a 3-0 win against Luton Town at the Bridge.

Many thought, though, Sanchez would be handed a rest against League Two opposition in Wimbledon this week, with Petrovic making his debut. However, it appears Chelsea are still waiting to receive confirmation over the 23-year-old's work permit.

«I am going to play Sanchez, I can confirm that because we still do not have the confirmation if Petrovic is available or not,» Pochettino told reporters on Tuesday afternoon. «We need confirmation [over the work permit].

»We don't know if we can use him tomorrow, that is why we prepared for the game with Robert. But I think he [Petrovic] needs more time to understand the way we want to play, the concept with Tony [Jiminez] and Hilario.
