Chelsea thrashing was ‘most embarrassed I’ve ever felt’ admits Everton defender

Everton's James Tarkowski has expressed his deep embarrassment after a heavy defeat to Chelsea, describing it as the «most embarrassed» he's ever felt in his career.

The 31-year-old defender was part of an Everton sidethat was dismantled by Chelsea's Cole Palmer, who netted four times in a dominant display at Stamford Bridge.

The loss marked Everton's worst of the season, and Tarkowski did not hold back in his assessment during a candid post-match interview with Sky Sports. He stated, "[We] underperformed, the most embarrassed I have felt as an individual.

«It shows where we are at today, we can only apologise to the fans who supported us. It is on the players. It is not on the manager and the staff. No excuses on our behalf, we need to brush ourselves down as we have a big few weeks coming up.

»We conceded six goals and you should feel embarrassed. [It's] nothing to do with technical aspects, people getting beat and run off and it is hard to summarise it."

Despite the setback, Tarkowski called for resilience and hoped for continued support from the fans: «I have had dark times here but the fans stick by us in the next game so hopefully they'll be there for us again.»

Everton began and ended the evening in a worrisome position at the bottom of the Premier League table, but will have seen their visit to inconsistent Chelsea as an opportunity to take three points — until Palmer showed up, that is.
