England fell to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of 17-year-old Endrick and his Brazil side at Wembley. It was a typical friendly game in North London with little in the way of clear-cut chances but the teenager was able to find a way past Jordan Pickford on the night.
It was a chance for Gareth Southgate to get a good look at some of his other key options considering that the likes of Harry Kane, Bukayo Saka, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Jack Grealish were all out injured. There were definitely some spritely performances that will have earned some credit with the boss.
From a London perspective, however, Arsenal might perhaps be encouraged by a potential injury scare for their end-of-month title rival clash with Man City. Meanwhile, Chelsea saw Cole Palmer not fit enough to take part in the game with mixed showings from their available assets with Spurs getting no showing from James Maddison.
Jordan Pickford – Beaten early by a Vini Jr strike which had to be bailed out by Walker, Pickford was not necessarily tested much more with the Brazilian forwards frequently inaccurate. Having watched Aaron Ramsdale excite with his distribution, there is something lacking from the Everton man and I find myself left wanting more, especially from an urgency perspective. 5
Kyle Walker — Was looking his brilliant best in the opening stages of the game as he continued to handle Vinicius Jr. Pulling off the goal-line trap of the ball after the Brazilian winger had beaten the offside trap and then Pickford with his strike but the Man City man was there. Man City will be concerned however as he went off in the 21st minute of the game seemingly having suffered a problem. 6
