Chilwell puts mansion up for sale due to rise in burglaries at footballe' homes

Chelsea footballer Ben Chilwell is selling his Surrey mansion because he wants more security for himself.

The former England player, 27, currently lives in Cobham, Surrey, close to where Chelsea’s training ground is located.

The gated mansion is on the market for £4,750,000 and has five bedrooms and six bathrooms.

Sources have said the move has been prompted by the number of footballers that have been burgled in the last few years.

Jack Grealish, 28, had his house burgled over Christmas whilst his family was his home watching him play.

His house was raided of £1million worth of jewellery by thieves on Boxing Day in Cheshire.

Manchester City player Kevin De Bruyne’s, 32, 70-acre home in Belgium was also broken into in early December whilst he was in Saudia Arabia.

Last year the 32-year-old’s former City team-mate Raheem Sterling, 29, was forced to return home from the World Cup following a raid at his home in Surrey. Others, including Jesse Lingard, Joao Cancelo, Victor Lindelof and Paul Pogba have also been targeted.

In December Mail Sport revealed Premier League footballers spend thousands on hiring ex-SAS officers, purchasing protection dogs and installing steel panic rooms with emergency phone lines in their houses.

There are also concerns that the growing interest in the women’s game has led to an increase in unwanted attention at training grounds and outside stadiums.

And, on a number of occasions last season, stars in the men’s game were followed home after costly defeats for their teams.
