Conor Gallagher to Tottenham transfer truth revealed as Todd Boehly faces £51m Chelsea FFP issue
Tottenham Hotspur have been dealt a major blow to their hopes of signing Conor Gallagher. The 23-year-old midfielder has faced an uncertain future at Chelsea recently as Todd Boehly hopes to raise funds after spending almost £1billion on new players since May 2022.
If Gallagher, as a Cobham academy graduate, were to be sold then any fee secured from a potential exit would go down as 'pure profit' of the Blues' books, making him an incredibly lucrative asset. In fact, football.london understands that Chelsea were actively trying to sell him this time last year.
Then in the summer, Spurs were among several Premier League sides who wanted to secure Gallagher's signature, with Ange Postecoglou said to be a big admirer. Newcastle United and West Ham also expressed an interest in the England international.
It's said that Liverpool were in the race to sign him earlier in the window, but a move to Anfield failed to materialise after Jurgen Klopp got his hands on Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai instead. While Gallagher may have just 18 months remaining on his contract in west London, the CIES Football Observatory still value him at an impressive €60million (£51.4m).
Now, a £51.4m windfall would go down a treat for Chelsea as they look to remain in line with Financial Fair Play and Profit and Sustainability rules. But there's one issue; the English international's departure would go down like a lead balloon with supporters – especially if he was shipped off to Tottenham.
However, Boehly might not even need to make that decision because William Gallas believes Gallagher himself would block a move to north London. Speaking to Gambling Zone, the Frenchman also questioned why the Lilywhites would need a new midfielder.
