Former Premier League striker Alan Shearer has told Chelsea they still need to make three key signings following their transfer activity under Todd Boehly.
Prior to the January window, Chelsea's transfer spend had already exceeded the £1billion mark since a consortium led by LA Dodgers co-owner Boehly and private equity giant Clearlake Capital took control of the club from Roman Abramovich in 2022. With big money signings such as Raheem Sterling, Wesley Fofana, Moisés Caicedo, Cole Palmer and Mykhaylo Mudryk all arriving through the door over the course of three windows.
In total, 30 first team players have been added to the squad with Mauricio Pochettino now facing the task of balancing the bloated dressing room, as he struggles to find a regular starting eleven that can help the club compete with the very best in the top flight of English football once again.
Despite the immense amount of money spent and the huge influx of talent arriving at Cobham, Shearer has claimed the club still need to sign three key players if they are to challenge for titles once again. Speaking on the The Rest Is Football podcast following the win against their London rivals Fulham, Shearer highlighted the three positions Chelsea still need to invest in.
“I still can’t work out how you can spend that much money and still need a goalkeeper maybe, still need a centre-half, and definitely need a centre forward but three wins," he said. «A little bit better, but I wouldn’t get too excited.”
The comments came after the 1-0 win against Marco Silva's side at Stamford Bridge last weekend, as summer signing Palmer scored the only goal on the afternoon from the penalty spot just seconds before the half-time break.
