David De Gea remains a free agent after departing United this summer. He was unceremoniously dumped by Ten Hag after 12 years at Old Trafford and that decision has been a hot-topic ever since.
At the time, there was a general consensus that United needed an upgrade between the posts. Ten Hag certainly thought so - spending £47million on his replacement Andre Onana - and he was not alone.
"You have to have a world-class goalkeeper and United need to make that change now," said former captain Gary Neville about De Gea on The Overlap show this summer. Ten Hag was, clearly, not the only man to see it that way!
"Being Manchester United goalkeeper is the hardest position in English football," he added. "It brings the most scrutiny. I had two great keepers in Peter Schmeichel and Edwin van der Sar but, between that, we lost four titles out of five."
Onana has been hit and miss so far with his performances. There is no doubt his style is better suited to a Ten Hag system, but the Cameroon international has also made high-profile mistakes.
