Damien Duff believes Liam Burt can bring his X-factor to Shelbourne’s new campaign after joining on loan for the season from Shamrock Rovers.
This time last year, the former Celtic and Rangers trainee became the latest talent to swap Bohemians for Dublin rivals Rovers but only had a fleeting involvement during their latest title success.
Injuries were a factor in the flanker making just 16 appearances and he would have been on the fringes again had he stuck around for Stephen Bradley’s drive for five quest.
Duff, who delivered European qualification to the Reds fans for the first time in 17 years, has moved to offer the 24-year-old a springboard to revive his career.
The Shels boss said: “Liam is a special player who has absolute X factor and we are delighted that he has signed. He is very eager to get back to his best and we plan to get him there.
“He brings another dynamic to our attacking strengths and I’m sure he will excite all the fans when they see him in action.” The former Scotland underage international added: “I’m delighted to be signing for Shels, after a few weeks of talking and hearing the manager’s plans for the club.
“I’m really looking forward to getting in and meeting the lads now and working hard in pre-season training. I’m getting back fully fit now and injury free and can’t wait to get the season started and help Shelbourne hopefully progress again after the back of a successful season last year. It’s a massive club Shels and I’m excited to get playing in front of the fans, it’s always been a great atmosphere each time I’ve played at Tolka.” Burt becomes the 21st member of Duff’s squad for next season which officially gets underway on February 16 with a trip to take on promoted Waterford.
