On Monday night, Fernandez would net for the second game in succession, coolly finding the top corner from eight yards to seal a 3-1 win at Crystal Palace in the Premier League.
Like at Villa, Fernandez celebrated passionately with the travelling Chelsea support, and he took the decision to discuss his future immediately after the game at Selhurst Park.
