Alan Pardew believes that Erik ten Hag must take the blame for Manchester United's poor record in the transfer market.
The Red Devils have endured a frustrating start to the season having won just three of their seven Premier League matches and losing their opening Champions League group stage clash with Bayern Munich.
Ten Hag is now in his second year at Old Trafford and after spending hundreds of millions on new signings, pressure is starting to build with those arrivals failing to perform.
Man United find themselves in an unusual position due to the ongoing uncertainty regarding the future ownership of the club, with the Glazer family half-heartedly looking into the prospect of selling up.
But according to former West Ham and Newcastle boss Pardew, Ten Hag is deserving of his fair share of blame for the club's poor start.
Speaking on talkSPORT, Pardew said: «He managed Ajax to great success and he’s comes through to Man United and he’s earned the right be at Man United.
“At the moment the question marks have got to be around the signings of the players, the choice of signings and what that club is.
“In my opinion, they’ve underestimated what a true Manchester United player should be. I’m not just talking about a great technical footballer, but the right character with that kind of hunger in them to drive the team on; Steve Bruce, Roy Keane, Eric Cantona – you could name so many different characters – Gary Neville.
“I look at this team and Bruno Fernandes is the skipper but he doesn’t strike me as that type of characters. He’s a great footballer, but not that type of character and I look in that group and I’m wondering who that is.
