Everton didn’t just get the controversial ‘xG’ statistics right in their 3-0 romp against Bournemouth but a whole host of parameters that reinforced their dominance for what was their biggest home win for almost a year.
The victory was the Blues’ most-emphatic at Goodison Park since they defeated Crystal Palace on October 22, 2022 when Frank Lampard was still in charge and was the first time they had netted more than once in a game on home turf under Sean Dyche. The previous weekend, following their fourth straight Goodison reversal when Luton Town triumphed 2-1 for what was their first-ever Premier League win, the Everton manager had taken to bringing up ‘expected goals’ to explain his side’s display.
Dyche said: “I don’t know what the xG was, it would be right up there. By the way, just to be clear, you don’t examine a whole performance on xG but it’s another marker that gives you an idea.
“Bodies in the box, balls going into the box, quality chances created. You’ve got to take them at the end of the day and their body language to take theirs was better than ours, particularly the set pieces.”

Indeed, Everton’s xG figure against Luton Town was calculated as being 3.23 by Comparisonator which was the third-highest in the Premier League that weekend behind Arsenal (3.38) and West Ham United (3.33) but despite this dropping slightly to 3.1 against Bournemouth – a number that proved much closer to their actual goals scored – the Blues were ranked first for xG in the Premier League last weekend, way ahead of next best Fulham on 2.22 followed
