Former Chelsea assistant coach Jody Morris has admitted that he's been left «surprised» by the impact of summer signing Cole Palmer at the club so far. It comes following the playmaker making the switch to Stamford Bridge from Manchester City in a deal worth roughly £42.5million.
It was a shock to a few, given the increase in minutes he was starting to find under Pep Guardiola as well as a call for experience from Mauricio Pochettino in the transfer window. However, it appears as though all the early signs point towards the deal being something of a successful one.
The 21-year-old has grown in confidence in a short amount of time, starting to dictate games in his team's favour against some of the biggest opposition in the division. In just nine Premier League games, Palmer has managed to score four goals and assist two for his team-mates.
A first England senior international team call-up was awarded for his efforts and it saw him placed in front of the media for the camp ahead. When asked about his decision to move clubs over the summer, Palmer admitted that the transfer appears to be paying off so far.
He told reporters: «You know how good of a manager Pep is. He gave me the opportunity and platform to kick-start my career. I'll always be grateful to him. Who knows what would have happened if I'd stayed? Maybe I would have played more, maybe not. The decision to move to Chelsea is so far paying off.»
