Omanyala got out nicely from the blocks to open a gap in his competitors. He, however, slowed down towards the end, with Noah Lyles winning the heat.
The Commonwealth champion clocked 9,97 seconds, while Lyles used 9.95 seconds.
The first three of each heat qualify automatically for the semifinals, plus the next three with the best times. World Leader and British record holder Zharnel Hughes won heat one with a time of 10.00 seconds despite a slow start.
The semifinals are slated for Sunday, 5:35 PM Kenyan time, with the finals following later at night at 8:10 PM.
