Rangers have removed Frank Lampard from their list of managerial targets after a mixed reaction to his potential appointment, talkSPORT understands.
The Chelsea legend was interviewed earlier this week by the Scottish giants, who recently parted company with Michael Beale.
Lampard has been out of management since he left his interim role at the Blues at the end of last season.
He has also previously been in charge of Everton, with his first spell as boss coming at Derby County in the 2018/19 season.
Rangers included Lampard on their final shortlist as they eye a new manager following a disappointing start to the campaign.
However, he has now been removed following a mixed reaction from fans to the England legend's potential appointment in the dugout.
Lampard was open to a return to the touchline at Ibrox but Rangers are now set to pursue alternative targets.
Former Gers defender Kevin Muscat, currently in charge of Japanese side Yokohama Marinos, has also been interviewed.
Rangers have won just four of their opening seven Scottish Premiership games this season and sit third in the table as a result.
A 3-1 defeat at home to Aberdeen proved to be Beale's final game as boss, with Steven Davis currently their interim manager.
They are already seven points behind rivals and league leaders Celtic, who remain unbeaten in their opening seven games.
Rangers also lost 2-1 away at Aris Limassol in the Europa League on Thursday night, with their manager search still ongoing.
Lampard is therefore also set to wait longer for a route back into management following his second spell in charge at Chelsea.
He returned to punditry duties on Monday Night Football for Sky Sports when the Blues beat west London rivals Fulham 2-0.
