Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta will be hoping that a midweek setback in the Carabao Cup won't put a dent in his side's Premier League form as they travel up to high-flying Newcastle United this afternoon.
The Gunners will go into the clash off the back of a surprise 3-1 defeat to West Ham in the fourth round of the competition, with Ben White's early own goal giving David Moyes' side the lead. Despite the Hammers only having five shots all game, Mohamed Kudus doubled their lead with a great first touch and calm finish past Aaron Ramsdale.
Jarrod Bowen's volleyed effort 10 minutes later essentially sealed the Gunners' fate before a consolation goal from Martin Odegaard saw Arteta's men exit the competition just one round further than they managed last season. They're still unbeaten in the league and will want to continue that in this weekend's clash with the Magpies.
They will be without a few key players though, with Gabriel Jesus out with a hamstring issue he suffered in the final ten minutes of their Champions League clash against Sevilla. Mikel Arteta confirmed in Friday's press conference that the star will miss out on the trip, saying: «I cannot guarantee that we are trying to get that recovery as quick as possible. I said that it will be weeks, but very difficult to put that time frame still, right now.
»This is football. It is what happens. He hasn't had a lot of muscle injuries, it is true that the load that he had in the last few weeks to what he's done in the past.
«Even when he was at City, it has been very very different and he's still adapting to it. We lost four big players in the last few weeks but it's the challenges that you have throughout the season.»
