Sevilla have announced their squad for tonight's (Tuesday) UEFA Champions League Group B clash against Arsenal and there aren't any real surprises.
Diego Alonso, who was appointed by the La Liga outfit just under two weeks ago, has the luxury of a fully fit first-team squad but hasn't included Federico Gattoni and Kike Salas in his plans for the visit of the Gunners whilst Marcao and former Manchester United prospect Adnan Januzaj are unavailable as they are ineligible.
Draws against RC Lens and PSV Eindhoven mean Sevilla go into the game sitting third in Group B with two points from a possible six so far. However, the Uruguayan is well aware that his side, ideally, need to record a victory over Arsenal if they're to have any chance of qualifying for the knockout phase.
«Having not won in the two opening games of the competition, we need a win,» Alonso said in the pre-match press conference. Tomorrow we have that opportunity and we are ready for it. We'll have to work our socks off for the whole 90 minutes. We're facing a great team, but we're ready."
This game falls just three days after Sevilla held Real Madrid to a 1-1 draw, effectively passing the Jude Bellingham test by stopping the England international from recording a goal or an assist. With that said, the quick turnaround does leave Alonso with somewhat of a selection headache.
«We haven't decided who's going to play yet, that is tomorrow's job,» he added. «It is quite a quick turn around having played on Saturday evening, not a lot of time for rest and recovery. So tomorrow, when we have a better understanding of everyone's fitness, we will make the decision.
