Gabriel Jesus has suffered a new knee injury and is unavailable for Arsenal’s FA Cup match with Liverpool. The Brazilian has already missed a portion of this and last season due to knee problems which stems from a serious injury requiring surgery from the Qatar World Cup.
football.london understand that the injury is not expected to be serious however, with the frequency of issues suffered by the former Manchester City striker raising the question of the impact on this winter’s transfer plans. That said, there are not expected to be any major changes to the established strategy.
Mikel Arteta was asked in his pre-Liverpool press conference about the possibility of transfers and whilst he appeared open to the potential, he reiterated the need to look within to cover shortcomings. Arsenal have Eddie Nketiah, Leandro Trossard and Kai Havertz who could all play in the number nine role.
“We are open in the transfer market but again the emphasis is on making the most out of the players that we have,” he said. “We will work together with the club to understand whether there are any possibilities and if we have any good options, but first of all focus on the players that we have.”
The issue Arsenal face is hypothetically, even if it was a serious problem suffered by Jesus — which to stress is not expected to be the case at this stage – it would be highly unlikely to provoke a serious move in the market.
