Today marks the anniversary of what proved to be Landon Donovan’s final goal for Everton and to mark the occasion, we’ve asked three of the ECHO sportsdesk who their favourite Blues loan player was.
USA international Donovan had two temporary stays with the Blues in 2010 and 2012 and, although he failed to find the net in nine outings in the latter, his first spell brought two goals in 13 matches with the second arriving in 5-1 thrashing of Hull City at Goodison Park on March 7, 2010.

Donovan’s moves from Los Angeles Galaxy to Everton were only ever going to be short-term affairs but the best Blues loan signings usually become permanent transfers, such as Romelu Lukaku and Duncan Ferguson. However, given what he achieved during a spell when he was being borrowed from someone else, I’m going to pick another big centre-forward, ‘Super’ Kevin Campbell.
After enduring a second last-day escape from relegation in four years in the previous season, Everton’s first campaign under Walter Smith was in serious danger of turning sour as the spring of 1999 arrived. After failing to find the net in nine of their first dozen Premier League fixtures at Goodison Park and the 5-0 thrashing of Middlesbrough on February 17, the night when goals were like buses for the Blues, proving to be a temporary reprieve, the team were in desperate need for a focal point to their attack.
