West Ham are preparing a fresh bid for Harry Maguire after failing to sign the Manchester United defender last summer.
David Moyes abandoned his pursuit of the England international back in August when United demanded too much. But now the Irons have reignited their interest, knowing that Maguire, 31, is about to enter the final year of his Red Devils contract.
According to the Sun, West Ham could be willing to pay between £15million and £20m for the former Hull and Leicester centre-back, who's enjoyed a resurgent season on a personal level as a result of United's defensive injury crisis. The Yorkshireman has so far made 23 appearances across all competitions and is set to return after an injury of his own for Sunday's FA Cup quarter-final clash with Liverpool.
Maguire was stripped of the captaincy by Red Devils manager Erik ten Hag at the start of the current campaign, with the armband going to Bruno Fernandes. The 31-year-old has responded in a professional manner and Ten Hag has relied on him during some of his toughest moments in charge this term.
But if new United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe wants to drum up funds and avoid any Financial Fair Play sanctions, the opportunity to sell Maguire could be too good to turn down - especially if the Red Devils don't finish in the Champions League places. Ratcliffe recently admitted to the BBC: "We really, really want to get into the Champions League next year - it's quite important for FFP."
West Ham had been keen to snap up Maguire's services in the wake of the Ten Hag's ruthless decision last pre-season, only to eventually be priced out after weeks of negotiations. Maguire explained why the move fell through when speaking in October.
