Arsenal's summer transfer spending shows no signs of slowing as Mikel Arteta plans a renewed Premier League title bid in 2023/24.
The Gunners were edged out by defending champions Manchester City in the final weeks of last season with the Basque coach determined to strengthen his squad to prevent a repeat.
Germany international Kai Havertz has already arrived at the Emirates Stadium as part of a £65m/$82m switch from Chelsea, with the Gunners working on a huge move to sign Declan Rice from West Ham.
However, Arteta is also prioritising defensive reinforcements, entering final negotiations with Ajax to sign Netherlands star Jurrien Timber.

Arsenal completed a £34m/$44.6m deal for Timber on July 14, with the fee potentially rising £38.5m ($50.5m).
Manchester United had also been linked with move for Timber, manager Erik ten Hag having previously worked with him at Ajax.
However, the Red Devils dropped their interest late on to leave Arsenal effectively unopposed in their push for the 22-year-old.
Arteta said he was "really excited" to have signed Timber. “Jurrien is a young player but has already achieved so much," said the Spaniard.
"He has experienced what it’s like to go to a major international tournament on more than one occasion, as well as the trophies he has won with Ajax. We look forward to welcoming and integrating Jurrien into the squad.”
Timber's main role for Ajax in 2022/23 was as the right-sided centre-back in a four-man defence as a season of upheaval in Amsterdam saw them finish third in the Eredivisie.
