Arsenal have qualified for the quarter-finals of the Champions League after a tense penalty shootout victory over Porto at the Emirates Stadium.
Mikel Arteta's side headed into the game needing to overhaul a 1-0 deficit picked up in Portugal last month. After piling on the pressure in the first half, they managed to level the aggregate score just before the interval thanks to Leandro Trossard's neat finish.
The Gunners continued to press after the break and thought they were ahead when Martin Odegaard chipped into an open goal but it was ruled out due to a foul in the build-up. Ultimately, penalties were needed to separate the two clubs with goalkeeper David Raya becoming the hero with two saves as Arsenal won 4-2 in the shootout.
The North London club have joined; Bayern Munich, PSG, Real Madrid, Manchester City and Barcelona in the next round with the final two spots to be decided on Wednesday night. Inter hold a 1-0 aggregate lead over Atletico Madrid heading into tonight's return clash in Spain while Borussia Dortmund and PSV Eindhoven could not be separated in the Netherlands in the first leg.
Arsenal shall discover their route to Champions League glory on Friday when the draw for the quarter-finals and semi-finals of the competition is made. In the meantime, Arteta and the boardroom can add up their winnings so far.
