Manchester will face Bayern Munich tonight with their Champions League hopes on the line.
United will have to beat Munich to secure their passage to the knock-out round of the Champions League, however that may not be enough with results elsewhere needing to go United's way. United's stop-start season continued on Saturday as Erik ten Hag's men were humbled at home to Bournemouth as the Cherries put three past United without reply.
It could've even been worse than the final scoreline for United in what was a wretched display from the Reds and no doubt ten Hag will be looking for an immediate response from his players tonight. United's domestic campaign may have fluctuated between the great and the downright bizarre but their ability to suddenly switch off has been none more prevalent than in the Champions League where they have just one win and a draw from five games and sit bottom on four points.
United's opponents tonight also suffered a shock defeat in the Bundesliga at the weekend. Harry Kane and co suffered a massive 5-1 defeat away to Frankfurt which gave Thomas Tuchel's team their first defeat of the season to leave them four points off Xabi Alonso's Bayer Leverkusen, albeit with a game in hand.
Munich's surprise defeat will give United hope that they can get some change out of the German champions, however even if they manage to take three points off Munich they have to hope Galatasaray and FC Copenhagen draw in order to qualify for the knockout stages. Anything less than three points will end their Champions League aspirations, however they could drop into the Europa League playoffs.
