A former Premier League footballer has revealed he had the chance to sign for Liverpool after an extraordinary season which saw his team reach two cup finals.
In 1996, just after Fabrizio Ravanelli won the Champions League with Juventus, Middlesbrough managed to pull off a major coup by welcoming him to the Premier League in a transfer worth £7 million.
The frontman's season began with a hat-trick on his debut against Liverpool, and his brilliant form continued. Boro went on to reach both domestic cup finals but lost them to Chelsea in the FA Cup and Leicester in the League Cup. However, despite almost clinching silverware, Ravanelli and his club were relegated from the top flight of English football. He moved to Marseille in the summer of 1997.

The cult hero would return to England in 2001, spending two years with Derby County, with whom Ravanelli was also relegated. Now, the now 55-year old striker has revealed he had the chance to stay in England longer than his first spell with Boro, rather than heading to France.
In an interview for Bitcoin Casinos, Ravanelli said: "After winning the Champions League with Juventus in 1996, Bryan Robson came to me and he had been a hero of mine in football. He came to speak with me in Milan. I was on holiday when we met him. He made a fantastic impression and I understood very quickly he is a fantastic man.
