According to RMC Sport’s Jérôme Rothen, A Saudi Arabian Prince is interested in purchasing Ligue 1 club AS Monaco in the near future with the club now up for sale.
Speaking about the interest in Monaco, the television show host said, “There’s something heavy that’s going to happen behind and from reliable sources, on the side of the Prince’s family and the club, there has been an approach with the Saudis.” Rothen also revealed that meetings have already taken place between Prince Albert and a member of the Saudi royal family.
The information from Rothen indicates that there is a ‘strong interest’ from Saudi Arabia to invest in a French football club. With Monaco made available for purchase by Dmitry Rybolovlev, according to information received by Get French Football News, Les Monégasques are a prime opportunity for investment from the Gulf State.
Monaco are not the only Ligue 1 team that Saudi Arabia have shown an interest in in the past. According to Rothen, there has also been interest from Saudi in investing in Marseille ‘a few years ago’ but no takeover bid has ever been lodged.
