Mauricio Pochettino will be desperate for Cole Palmer's training absence to be precautionary following an update by England. The versatile attacker, who received his second England call-up earlier this week, has been in sensational form for Chelsea with 14 goals and 12 assists to his name from 34 appearances in all competitions this season.
Despite signing in the summer from Manchester City with limited experience of senior football, Palmer has become the Blues' talisman. Palmer has missed just one Premier League game this season with that absence enforced due to suspension. He has also played a key role in Chelsea possibly playing three times at Wembley this season, courtesy of the Carabao Cup and FA Cup.
As a result of his form, Palmer has now been included in Gareth Southgate's last two England squads, but there are now some fears he has suffered an injury. On Wednesday, the Three Lions revealed that Palmer, Bukayo Saka, Harry Kane and Jordan Henderson were all training indoors while the rest of the squad took part in sessions on the grass at St. George's Park.
Despite the statement by England, pictures have emerged that show Palmer training with his international teammates outside as part of the warm-up. While his absence in the main session is likely precautionary, Pochettino may be concerned there is an issue plaguing Palmer and will therefore be hopeful he does not feature too prominently in upcoming friendlies against Brazil and Belgium.
