Former Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness has claimed that Liverpool and his old club are "working" on a deal to appoint Xabi Alonso as their new manager.
The Reds have been heavily linked with hiring Alonso as their next manager ever since it was confirmed that Jurgen Klopp would be leaving the club. Klopp announced the news on January 26 and since then the rumours have been swirling as to who could be his successor in the Anfield dugout.
Alonso has emerged as the early favourite but he is not the only contender reportedly in the race. Sporting CP boss Ruben Amorim, Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi and Germany head coach Julian Nagelsmann have also been mentioned as potential candidates.
As well as Liverpool, Bayern Munich have also been linked with appointing Alonso in the summer. Current manager Thomas Tuchel will depart at the end of the season, and Alonso has been listed as the favourite to take over at the Allianz Stadium.

Alonso is currently on the verge of guiding Bayer Leverkusen to their first-ever Bundesliga title. Should he succeed, his reputation in world football is only likely to increase even more so than it already has in recent months.
Hoeness has served as Bayern's president on two separate occasions, most recently from 2016-19 where he was then succeeded by current president Herbert Hainer. Hoeness has spoken about Alonso's future and claimed that both Bayern and Liverpool are "working" on appointing him as their respective next manager, along with Real Madrid.
