At risk of reading too much like the pre-match Chelsea injury updates released by the club, Reece James is continuing his rehabilitation and recovery work. The 24-year-old is yet to play for the Blues in 2024 but plans are in place for a long-awaited return.
In what has been the third heavily disrupted season in a row for James, he is now away from the Cobham training complex and Stamford Bridge in his latest stage of getting back to full fitness. Posting from Doha, Qatar, James updated fans of his movements on social media.
On Wednesday morning the Englishman put up an image from a sunny sports centre with a running track and football pitch. Tagging the location of the Qatar capital, James also wrote, «2/3 [tick emoji]».
Exactly what the «2/3» means is currently unclear, but given he would appear to be at the second stage of his rehab it could well be that. James had surgery on his hamstring in December last year, nearly three weeks after his last appearance for the club.
James also posted online last week after making the move to training on the grass at Cobham. After the struggles he has been through it is certainly a good sign.
It is the fifth time in just over 18 months that he has struggled with a hamstring strain. It kept him out of the World Cup last year and then for most of the second part of last season as well after he returned to action in 2022. The Blues hope that by undergoing surgery they will be able to rule out further problems.
