Chelsea ensured they would enter their FA Cup quarter-final against Leicester at the weekend on a high after beating Newcastle 3-2 in an important Premier League clash in the race for the European places.Goals from Nicolas Jackson, Cole Palmer, and Mykhailo Mudryk got the job done for Mauricio Pochettino's side.
The victory wasn't enough to lift the Blues out of the bottom half of the table ahead of the upcoming international break but they won't drop further down the league either. They are also just one point from Newcastle now with a game in hand.
Chelsea remain within touching distance of seventh-placed West Ham (four points ahead having played a game extra) and may even be eyeing up Manchester United in sixth on 47 points too.To get that far Pochettino's men will need to show a consistency in the final two months of the season that has evaded them thus far.
The boss was able to welcome back some more of his squad from injury at Stamford Bridge here though as they look to finish the campaign strongly. Ahead of the cup match to come, here is the latest from the treatment room.
In an injury update posted on the club's official website, it was confirmed that the left-back is «undergoing specialist medical assessment» due to a knee issue. Pochettino has confirmed it happened after the Brentford game.
Injury: Knee.
Predicted return date: Unknown.
What Pochettino has said: «We need to wait until he sees the specialist. I cannot go in advance. I hope it's not a big issue but after eight or nine months here at the club, I prefer to wait.»
