Ross McCausland has extended his stay with Rangers by agreeing to a contract at Ibrox until 2027
Northern Ireland’s latest sensation Ross McCausland has admitted he wasn’t sure he would keep getting chance at Rangers after Philippe Clement took over at Ibrox.
The Co Antrim winger has just capped an incredible month that saw him earn his first call-up to the Northern Ireland squad, starting in their Euro 2024 qualifier against Finland, by signing a new contract with the club until 2027.
McCausland has had to bide his time with Rangers since joining the club’s academy from Linfield in the summer of 2019, making his debut in May 2022 but only making one appearance last season.
It was under interim manager Steven Davis, who took over briefly after the departure of Michael Beale earlier in the season, that the 20-year-old got his chance, coming on as a replacement in their 3-0 win at St Mirren before the Northern Ireland legend was replaced by new boss Clement.
Despite his fears that the Belgian might so in another direction, McCausland has thrived under his tenure, making six appearances, including his first start in a Rangers shirt in the 2-0 win at Livingston on November 12, and his performances have netted him a new three-year deal in Glasgow.
And having found favour with Clement since his arrival at Ibrox, McCausland is now keen to nail down his place in the side long-term, starting with Thursday’s clash against Aris Limassol in the Europa League.
