A week of events celebrating independent music venues will be returning to Merseyside next year.
Independent Venue Week (IVW) is celebrating its 11th anniversary next year and will hold events across the country to celebrate venues owned by the people that run and work in them. Organisers have encouraged gig-goers and the music industry to support local music scenes across the country.
IVW’s 2024 Artist Ambassador, who will follow in the footsteps of Radiohead’s Philip Selway and Formby’s Wet Leg, will be revealed in coming weeks, alongside ambassadors for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Last year, a number of local venues in Merseyside took part, including Liverpool's Invisible Wind Factory and EBGBS, hosting several gigs promoting new and upcoming artists.

Acts that performed include Liverpool-based pop musician Eleanor Nelly and the Beatles-inspired Jonny Ash band. 110 venues have signed for next year's IVW, four of which are in Merseyside. Other organisations wishing to take part have until November 14 to register.
Craig G Pennington, Co-Founder & Chief Executive of Future Yard in Birkenhead which is a regular participant in IVW, said: “Independent Venue Week has very quickly been established as a vital highlight in Future Yard’s annual programme.
“The opportunity to collaborate with other venues, as part of the UKs vibrant DIY venue community, is hugely welcome. We’ve hosted some truly memorable shows over the past couple of years, as we’ve built the venue out of the challenges of covid. We are hugely grateful to the IVW team for all their support and can’t wait to take part again in 2024.”
