Is Oleksandr Zinchenko fit to start for Arsenal vs West Ham? Injury news latest and FPL update
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is hopeful that Oleksandr Zinchenko will be fit enough to feature for the Gunners in this weekend's Premier League encounter with West Ham United. The North London club are looking to build on their important 3-1 win over Liverpool last Sunday that dented the Merseysiders' title aspirations.
Zinchenko started in the top-of-the-table clash against Jurgen Klopp's side as Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard scored in an important win in the context of the title race. The Ukrainian, however, was replaced during the half-time interval and replaced by Jakub Kiwior.
The 27-year-old experienced a recurrence of the calf injury that saw him miss two matches during the hectic New Year period. By the time Sunday's trip to the London Stadium is underway, Arsenal will know whether they can capitalise on mishaps from Liverpool and/or Manchester City, or whether they need to win to keep pace with their top-flight rivals.
Arsenal will be hopeful that Zinchenko makes it through Saturday's training session at London Colney. The North London club will be desperate to have a full complement going into the business end of the season amid injury concerns for Gabriel Jesus, Bukayo Saka and Thomas Partey among others.
After the flare-up of a previous issue for the Ukraine international, Arteta is hopeful that they will be in contention for a place in East London after describing the situation as 'evolving well' during Friday's press conference.
The 41-year-old said: «We have a few still in contention. They’ve been evolving really well, so tomorrow we’ll have another training session. We’re hopeful we’re going to have a few back and that we can put out a very competitive squad out there.»
