Chelsea flop Mykhailo Mudryk was reportedly heartbroken after his proposed move to Arsenal fell through last January.
After thriving at Shakhtar Donetsk in the first half of the 2022-23 season Mudryk appeared set to join the Gunners as they looked to bolster their front line to maintain their title charge.
The club were willing to smash their transfer record for Mudryk, but the Ukrainian ended up moving to Chelsea for £88m due to Shakhtar being happier with the Blues' deal in terms of the outlay and the way it was structured.
But it has since emerged that Mudryk was desperate to join Arsenal, with The Athletic reporting that he was 'devastated' when he realised the deal was off.
Team news and ticks, an Arsenal insider on X, has also claimed Mudryk was left in tears as he made his way to the airport to fly to London, and called Arsenal asking for them to do something to help him get his dream move.
His desperate plea ultimately failed to pay off and he put pen to paper on an eight-and-a-half year deal at Chelsea.
His first year at Stamford Bridge has proved to be a huge disappointment, with the 23-year-old scoring just four goals in 43 appearances.
Roberto De Zerbi, Mudryk's former coach at Shakhtar, claimed the forward had the potential to win the Ballon d'Or prior to his move to England, but he has been unable to find the form that would put him in contention for the prestigious award.
Instead, Mudryk has struggled for game time under Mauricio Pochettino this season, with the Blues boss often preferring to play England duo Cole Palmer and Raheem Sterling out wide.
Mudryk has not started a single league game in 2024, and failed to make an impact off the bench in Chelsea's Carabao Cup final defeat by Liverpool on Sunday.
