Jamie Carragher has mocked Chelsea fans as they were forced to watch their side lose to Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday after singing chants referring to homelessness, poverty and joblessness in the area. Heard virtually from the first minute in Merseyside, Carragher voiced his disappointment.
Those in the travelling end on Sunday opened by shouting 'feed the Scousers, let them know it's Christmas time' to the tune of Band Aid's 1984 hit, towards the home support. It continued throughout the game and has been something long endured by those of an Everton — and indeed Liverpool — persuasion.
Only last week, Sheffield United's Jack Robinson confronted his own fans during his side's defeat to Liverpool over the matter. Along with anti-semetic and homophobic chanting it is something being clamped down upon by organisations across the country but much less is done with this chant specifically.
Chelsea fans also sung 'sign on' at Goodison Park in relation to past employment problems, continuing to sing 'with a pen in your hand, you'll never get a job' to the melody of Liverpool's You'll Never Walk Alone.
Carragher, an Evertonian from birth but with a stout Liverpool edge having spent his career playing for the Reds, voiced his frustration at the chants. «Feed the scousers [pained face emoji],» he tweeted shortly into the second half. «Delighted Everton have gone in front after the nonsense getting sung by the Chelsea fans.»
The Blues would go on to lose the game 2-0 to Sean Dyche's men, plunging them into further disarray having lost to Manchester United last week. Everton, on the other hand, continue to be on the up having won their past three games.
