Jamie Carragher has named the one Manchester United player that would fit into the current Liverpool team.
There has been no direct transfer between the two rivals since 1964, and that is unlikely to change any time soon. Liverpool are set to return to Old Trafford on Sunday as the Reds look to boost their title bid and avenge their recent dramatic defeat to United in the FA Cup.
In the Premier League, Jurgen Klopp’s side are 19 points ahead of United, who appear unlikely to qualify for next season’s Champions League. However, when asked which United player could slot into the Liverpool team, Carragher believed there was only one clear answer.

“I think I would probably take the young kid, [Kobbie] Mainoo,” Carragher said on The Overlap fan debate. “Mainoo, his age, number one. I think he looks like a superstar.
“He could go on to be a real superstar. I’m trying to think of who else in the United team is better than a Liverpool player in their position really.”
Given the gulf between the two sides in the league table, Carragher struggled to think of many others that could outperform their Liverpool counterpart. Perhaps the other options were Marcus Rashford as a left-sided forward or Bruno Fernandes in an attacking role, but Mainoo appears to have high potential in midfield.
A similar question was put to Carragher’s colleague, Gary Neville. The former defender was asked which Reds player would most improve United, and he opted for Liverpool’s captain over Mohamed Salah’s goalscoring ability.
