Arsenal's potential January transfer move for Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones may well be blocked before it's even begun, following a clear stance from the club and manager Jurgen Klopp. It comes as the Gunners look to reinforce their ranks over the next month in a bid for the Premier League title.
Mikel Arteta has been wary in recent weeks of the lack of depth he has in some areas of his squad, due to a mixture of unfortunate injuries and the evolution of his team. football.london understands that Arsenal are surveying the loan market for the possibility of landing some extra options.
A permanent deal elsewhere may seem slightly more unlikely, following a summer of heavy investment that included spending over £200million on incomings. A loan with an option to buy, such as David Raya's in the summer, may allow the side to swerve from any complicated financial restraints.
Amidst all the talks of reinforcements, recent reports claim that a midfielder is a possible area being looked at in the January window as well as the summer. One of those recent links has been with Jones, who has been a useful player with Liverpool since breaking into the first-team.
Klopp's stance on his impact has been pretty clear though, as he said earlier this season: «Special game from Curtis [against Newcastle], to be honest. His high press, his counter-press. We all know how good a player Curtis is, he is technically incredibly skilled, but he finds more and more direction in his dribbling, he gets better out of situations and his pressing and counter-pressing is meanwhile… he sets the level actually, how it should look. Really happy with that. He keeps every player in the game.”
