Jurgen Klopp believes there is a possibility that Joel Matip could still sign a new Liverpool contract and has opened up about the club’s plans for the January transfer window.
Matip was forced off the pitch in the 69th minute of the Reds’ win over Fulham at Anfield last Sunday, and scans later confirmed the defender had suffered an injury to his anterior cruciate ligament.
However, with the 32-year-old in the final year of his contract, there is a possibility that the defender could have played his last game for the club. During his time at Anfield, he has won the Champions League and Premier League, as well as the Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup, FA Cup, Carabao Cup and Community Shield.

But when asked about Matip’s situation, Klopp said he is confident Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group will show their 'class' and offer the centre-back a new deal.
He said: "I'm pretty sure the club will show their class just like they should do it. I'm pretty sure the club has told Joel already whatever happens, as long as he's injured everything is fine and now we have to make decisions together with Joel and how it looks after that.
"He deserves all of the support and he will get it. I would say so but it's not my decision in the end, I cannot sign the paper."
The 32-year-old’s absence leaves Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Joe Gomez and youngster Jarell Quansah as Liverpool’s centre-back options for the remainder of the campaign. But Klopp downplayed the prospect of the club bringing in another centre-back during the January transfer window.
