Roy Keane has suggested that Manchester United players 'weren't having' David Moyes 'before he walked through the door' at the club.
Moyes was hand-picked as the successor to Sir Alex Ferguson at United, taking over from his fellow Scot when he retired at the end of the 2012-13 Premier League season.
There were high hopes for his reign, with the now-West Ham boss taking over a side that had just won the Premier League for a record 13th time.
Things didn't go to plan, however, with Moyes winning just 27 of his 51 games in charge and failing to see out a single season despite signing a six-year deal, leaving United seventh in the table when he was sacked.
Keane, however, speaking on the Stick to Football podcast, brought to you by Sky Bet, has suggested the former United former boss was fighting an uphill battle from the start, with some players writing him off before he had even arrived.
'David Moyes came into Manchester United, and, okay, the standards may have dropped in terms of the brilliant players who left at that time, but the players should treat the manager with respect, who has done well at Everton, but the bit I don’t get is not having him before he’s walked in the door,' Keane said.
'Moyes may look back now and think there was things he could have done differently, and maybe he tried too hard, but for players to say they’re not having him before he walked in the door is crazy,' he added.
Moyes won the Community Shield with United, becoming the first Red Devils manager to win a trophy outright in his first season with the club, but things declined quickly for him and he was sacked nine months after he was appointed.
