Edu hands Arsenal dream summer transfer window scenario with perfect 12th deal completed
Arsenal have announced two new deals for players in the past week with Benjamin White extending until 2028 with a one-year option and todayTakehiro Tomiyasu was announced to have extended until 2026 with a one-year option. Both deals were the final pieces in a long line of renewals over the past couple of seasons.
Mikel Arteta has been backed and built a squad which continues to embark on its second successive title challenge. Huge sums have been invested into new players with the likes of Declan Rice, Kai Havertz and Jurrien Timber all signing long-term deals in the summer.
Yet the process truly began back in 2020 with the arrivals of both Thomas Partey and Gabriel Magalhaes. Two players which represented the differing strategies of recruitment.
Partey, the ready-made, European experienced immediate integration of quality. Whereas Gabriel was a cheaper and younger option identified as a player of potential which Arteta has not only unlocked, grown and refined but he too recently renewed his deal through until 2027, locking him in for the long term and batting away interest from the likes of Juventus and Barcelona.
The key members behind the strategies to renew players and who help to secure them are sporting director Edu Gaspar and current head of operations Richard Garlick – Garlick is set to become managing director when Vinai Venkatesham leaves in the summer. Both have been pivotal to the renewal of deals and how these are agreed.
Gabriel joined a long list of players before and since to extend their deals. Aaron Ramsdale, William Saliba, White, Tomiyasu, Mohamed Elneny, Martin Odegaard, Emile Smith Rowe, Gabriel Martinelli, Bukayo Saka, Reiss Nelson and Eddie Nketiah.
